DIMENSION 1138

New York City, 2019.
ABOUT DIMENSION 1138

A centuries-long battle wages between those gifted with mystical powers, and those with enough brilliance to create the weaponry needed to rival such skills. What began as a full-scale war so many years before is now simply a controversial topic to discuss, reduced to fights on social media, debates on the news, and two-hour long podcasts with only 30 minutes' worth of real content.New York City is considered both a safe haven and a war zone for both factions, housing some of the most skilled practitioners of magic alongside the most brilliant minds of their time. Technology and Magic basically rule 1138, and are deeply integrated into everyday life. Both have governmental rules of use to abide by, so naturally those laws get broken often enough to need a few heroes around.Five small islands exist on the East River. Each looks rather sleepy and small, with a house or structure on top which act as entrances to far more grand interiors. These islands are inhabited primarily by different schools of magic, except for two: one of which belongs to a poweful coven, and the other, belonging to an old sage who has seemingly been there for centuries.Certain scientists campaign for a somewhat sinister registration of all magick-users from birth, while those that practice magick struggle from within to stop wayward souls from using the gift for evil. Neither side wins in this particular debate, but those most affected are the people - the average Janes, Joes and J Jonah Jamesons who have no powers and no real access to or interest in the high-level work it takes to combat it all.

THE CITY IS ON FIRE.

At least, that's what it feels like. For the past twenty-four years, New York City has always had a hero in Spider-Man. With a combination of natural scientific genius and superhuman spider-powers, friendly neighborhood college professor Peter Parker - along with allies (sort of) like Iron Woman and Doctor Strange - has kept watch over this whimsical metropolis. He has overcome almost every challenge, defeated every foe, and gotten past every life-changing event one could think of- until one horrific car crash shatters his entire world.Following the death of his wife, beloved actress Mary Jane Watson, Parker spirals from depression and into madness, completing a project that his mentor, Otto Octavius, began before a sudden heart attack took the elder scientist's life just one year before. On the day of Mary Jane's funeral, Parker emerges in disguise as Doctor Octopus, blaming MJ's friend, Harriet Osborn, who was in the driver's seat during the accident.A fight breaks out, and Parker goes on a rampage that seems unstoppable-- until a young woman dressed in a black hood, likely there to mourn, seems to spring from the crowd and take on 'Doc Ock' with a combination of web-slinging and acrobatics.Unfortunately, before the chaos finally comes to an end, the would-be hero is dispatched into a wall by one of Ock's limbs. She and everyone in the area are forced to watch as Ock shoots a free claw out and into the stomach of Harriet Osborn.Another funeral follows. Another attack occurs. But this time, a new costumed Spider rises and chases Doc Ock directly down into the Hudson, before both disappear."Spider-Woman" has made quite the name for herself - along with a nickname, THE WEB-WITCH, bestowed upon her by the irritable editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle News Network.New threats arise every day in the form of super-powered enemies, out of control technology, and even otherworldly demons. Can New York City remain a safe haven under this new Spider and her limited allies? To be continued...
